Adhesive Footprints Increase Safety

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

If you ever find yourself in a children’s indoor play area for any reason, you may come across a bunch of adhesive footprints plastered on the floor. Kids are usually delighted by them regardless of their foot size, and normally take to hopping about in them, perhaps enjoying and making a game out of following the footprints to wherever they would lead, regardless of whether or not a reward awaited at the end of the trail. This propensity to follow footprints is an interesting trait that appears to stick around somewhat even as we grow older, which is sort of a blessing as far as industrial facility organization goes. Though not as popular or immediately functional as floor marking tape or different kinds of floor signs, adhesive footprints can easily be incorporated into the workplace environment to serve a variety of purposes.

Just as they did in the playroom, adhesive footprints plot out and provide a walkway for foot traffic in warehouses and distribution centers, as an alternative to laying out an entire path to distinguish pedestrian lanes from those that have to be shared with forklifts and mobile equipment. Their whimsical nature, combined with our instinctive tendency to follow them around, make them ideal for designating where we should be treading without making it feel too forced. The footprints are tough customers, made of PVC, a material that resists wear and tear that can be brought about by everyday industrial facility abuse. They will stick without a problem to any clean, grease-free, smooth and dry surface, which means that you may want to do a little bit of sweeping and cleaning before you conduct any footprint installation.

Otherwise, the adhesive footprints, which come in both left and right feet, obviously, are easily applied. Some adhesive footprint packages even come with adhesive measuring tape to ensure that the footprints are aligned properly and evenly spaced out. Also, to adhere to whatever color coding system your industrial facility utilizes, be it the one endorsed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or a custom scheme that works for your building, the footprints come in several different colors, so that they can be keyed to your functional color arrangement.

Adhesive footprints are seen by many as a step above cheap vinyl floor tapes, or paint, because of their flexibility. Many floor tape brands leave a nasty, gummy residue when they have to be removed, and can take a lot of time to peel off and clean completely. Paint is even less pliable, requiring the use of solvent or other harsh chemicals to remove it without damaging the floor. Conversely, the footprints are relatively easy to peel off, and do not cost a lot to install or replace.
